For dogs, nails should always be kept trimmed, as they can cause health issues if they get caught, ripped, infected or if they grow into pads. Spaying and Neutering
Do good for your pet and your community: Neutering your pet can have significant health and behavioral benefits for both dogs and cats. Plus, it will prevent unwanted litters and the risk that they will end up at an adoption center waiting for a loving home. 

Preventative Medications
Here’s one thing you’ll definitely want to avoid: Depending on the area that you live in, monthly preventatives can be very important. Parasites like lungworm can make your pet very unwell so regular deworming, as well as regular flea treatment are essential. Remember, getting rid of them is a lot more difficult than preventing them!
