14 brands of water bottles have been recalled due to potential E.coli contamination. Niagara Bottling has issued a voluntary recall for bottles from its Pennsylvania facilities after the company was notified of the contamination on June 10th at its spring source. It has since discontinued the use of said water source since they failed to notify the company in the proper amount of time.

The following brands are affected: Acadia, Acme, Big Y, Best Yet, 7-11, Niagara, Nature’s Place, Pricerite, Superchill, Morning Fresh, Shaws, Shoprite, Western Beef Blue and Wegman’s. You can find a list of case codes affected here: https://www.niagarawater.com/consumer-notice/

Escherichia coli, know as E.Coli, bacteria is found in the gut of most healthy people and animals. According to Dr. Uzair, a medial Expert on JustAnswer, most varieties of the bacteria are harmless but the few particularly violent strains which are typically the cause for food and beverage recalls, can cause abdominal pain and cramping, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. One must also be aware of dehydration which can easily occur while your body purges the bacteria.

For extreme cases he recommends re-hydration with IV fluids, supportive therapy with antipyretics which will reduce fever, anti-emetics to reduce vomiting, and anti-diarrheals if the frequency of stools is exceeding 6 per days. Additionally, your doctor may choose to prescribe antibiotics to eradicate the bacteria if your body is unable to do so on its own.

If you are concerned that you may have consumed a contaminated bottle of water, contact your physician or speak with a physician on JustAnswer.
